• Details:   This is a wonderful piece of history, an advertising collectible thermometer.  It features a reverse painted silhouette, an image of a lady training her Terrier dog.  The color litho image of a house on a cliff is within a circle, bordered in foil.  The foil art continues on the lady's dress.  This is an advertisement for "Cliff's Inn" in Los Angeles, CA, (no longer in business), we dated it 1920's because there is no phone number listed, (telephones were a luxury item for the wealthy in the 1920's into the early 30's).  These items sometimes had a calendar on the back, this one is either missing its calendar, or it's never been opened, we didn't want to damage the cardboard to see if it's behind the "flap".  There was a time when local service providers and retailers, gifted items to their customers as part of their advertising strategy. Gasoline stations, hotels, restaurants, beauty salons, even large companies like Coca-Cola, have all gifted thermometers.  They figured these would be kept since they were useful, the practice continued well into the 1960's.  These became so popular as home decor and collectibles, that in the 1980's some companies made reproductions with a retro-feel.  This piece is a true original, NOT a reproduction.   It is framed in a metal frame and has an improvised/ makeshift hook on back for hanging. 
• How to Use:  Excellent gift for an advertisement collector.  It has interest to those who not only collect advertising thermometers, but for silhouette collectors, dog lovers, travel memorabilia collectors, or as unique home decor.

• Dimensions:  5.0 inches x 4.0 inches 
• Condition:  Vintage - Used.  Good Vintage Condition. The cardboard backing has dark stains and discoloration.  The frame has lots of corrosion.  Please review all pictures and make sure you love this item before purchasing, we can't accept returns.  Please remember these are ANTIQUE and VINTAGE items, they are NOT new, every effort has been made to show any scratches, wear and tear and imperfections.  

We couldn't find information on Cliff's Inn.  Since 1961 there has been a bar called FOOTSIE'S at this address in Los Angeles.
